Mawenn First Husband: Meet Luc Besson

Luc Paul Maurice Besson is a film director, screenwriter, and producer from France. Luc Besson is the first husband of Maïwenn a French actress and filmmaker.

The former couple met when he was 31 and she was 15. They married in late 1992, when Maïwenn then 16, was pregnant with Shanna, their daughter, who was born on January 3, 1993.

Maïwenn Le Besco later claimed that their relationship inspired Luc Besson’s film Léon (1994), in which the plot revolved around an adult man’s emotional relationship with a child.

Their marriage ended in 1997 when Besson began dating actress Milla Jovovich while filming The Fifth Element (1997).

Luc Besson is associated with the Cinéma du Look film movement and has received César nominations for Best Director and Best Picture for his films Léon: The Professional (1994) and The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999).

He founded his own production company, Les Films du Loup, near the start of his career in 1980, later renamed Les Films du Dauphin. In 2000, he co-founded EuropaCorp with longtime collaborator Pierre-Ange Le Pogam. Besson has worked on more than 50 films as a writer, director, and producer.
